1920s Art Deco 14k White Gold Diamond and Sapphire Pendant on 14k Gold Chain

Originally a stickpin, we loved its triangular shape, which is reminiscent of a teardrop or an angel—so we converted it into a pendant and added a 14k white gold chain. The pendant features six Old Mine Cut diamonds and a stripe of French Cut truncated sapphires. The largest diamond is bezel set, while the smaller diamonds are bead set and sapphires are channel set. All the stones are delineated by milgrain. The pendant has filigree and open work along the top of the triangle that gives it a lace like feel.

The six diamonds are natural antique Old Mine Cut diamonds. They are bright and lively. They range in size: the largest measures 3.2 mm and the smallest is approximately 1.7 mm. The Old Mine Cut diamonds are nice to see in this piece, as Old Mine Cuts add a special sparkle. The total diamond weight is 1/3 of a carat.

The pendant measures 9/16” x 1/2” (not including the bail). The chain is 16”. Combined, the chain and pendant weigh 2.5 grams. The pendant is unmarked and acid tests as 14k. The chain is marked as 14k Italian gold.
