Vintage Design
The French manufacture of Savonnerie was the most prestigious European manufacture of pile-knotted carpets. The manufacture originated in a rug factory created in an abandoned soap factory (in French savon) on the Quai de Chaillot in Paris in 1615 by Pierre DuPont returning from Constantinople. The name of the manufacture, due to commercial custom, is applied to knotted rugs of other European manufacturers, the most famous is undoubtedly the Spanish one, which also made rugs of enormous dimensions for the Royal House. The decorations were inspired by French production, the knot technique was similar, while the structure was almost always in hemp instead of cotton. The decoration followed the predominant furnishing style in the various historical periods. The Savonnerie that we present to you has a Louis XV style and the red color of the background accentuates its magnificence. However, the small size allows it to be used in any environment that requires an eclectic and refined taste.
