Stunning and important set of easy chairs made in 1934 by Rolf Engströmer. This is a unique pair designed and executed for the library in book publisher Kaj Bonnier’s villa on Djurgården in Stockholm, built in 1930 according to drawings by architect Kurt von Schmalensee. The interior of the library was designed in 1934 by architect Rolf Engströmer and his firm Jefta – see attached drawing. The villa, which stands on the grounds of the “Franska värdshuset” (The French inn), was sold in 1987 to director Bo Fernström and has since been called Villa Fernström.
The big and chunky chairs are made from peartrees and have been refinished and fully reupholstered in organic sheepskin.
